This page covers three things: how we handle your personal data (Privacy Policy), what cookies we use (Cookie Policy), and the terms you agree to by using this site (Terms of Use).

Who we are

Life in Malaysia (lifeinmalaysia.com) is an independent website operated by Goh Tse Liang, an individual based in Malaysia. It is a personal project and not a registered company.

For anything on this page, including data requests, contact us at hello@lifeinmalaysia.com. We do not publish a postal address or phone number.

Privacy Policy

We handle personal data in line with Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA). The short version: we collect as little as possible, we do not sell it, and you can ask us to delete it.

What we collect

• Contact form. When you message us, we receive your name, email address and whatever you write. This is sent to our inbox and stored by our website software.
• Comments. If commenting is enabled and you leave one, we store your name, email address, comment and IP address.
• Analytics. We use Matomo, self-hosted on our own server, to count visits and see which pages are read. It records pages viewed, approximate location, referring site, device and browser type. It runs in cookie-less mode and your data is never sent to a third-party analytics company.
• Server logs. Our host records standard access logs, including IP addresses, for security and troubleshooting.

We do not ask for identity card numbers, financial details, or any sensitive personal data as defined by the PDPA. Please do not send them to us.

Why we collect it

To reply to your messages, to publish and moderate comments, to understand which articles are useful so we can write better ones, and to keep the site running securely. Nothing else.

Who we share it with

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal data. It is shared only with the service providers that make the site work: our web host, our email provider, and our analytics software. Each processes data on our instructions.

We may disclose data if required by Malaysian law or a valid order from an authority.

How long we keep it

• Contact form messages: up to 24 months, then deleted.
• Comments: kept while published, unless you ask us to remove them.
• Analytics: retained in aggregate.
• Server logs: as long as our host retains them.

Your rights

Under the PDPA you may ask us to give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, delete it, or stop using it. Email hello@lifeinmalaysia.com and we will respond within 21 days. There is no charge.

Children

This site is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, tell us and we will delete it.

Cookie Policy

Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. We keep our use of them to a minimum.

• Essential. Needed for the site to function, for example remembering your cookie choice or keeping you logged in if you have an account. These cannot be switched off.
• Analytics. We run Matomo in cookie-less mode, so our analytics currently sets no cookies at all. Visits are counted without storing anything in your browser and without tracking you across other websites.
• Advertising. We currently run no advertising. If we introduce advertising or affiliate tracking in future, we will update this page before it goes live and ask for your consent where required.

You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings at any time. Blocking essential cookies may break parts of the site.

Rules, prices, frequencies and deadlines in Malaysia change often. We try hard to be accurate at the time of writing and we date our articles so you can judge how fresh they are, but we cannot guarantee that everything stays correct. Always confirm anything important with the official source.

Some of our articles are researched and drafted with AI assistance. Every article is reviewed by a human before publication. If we get something wrong, tell us. We will correct it and note that we did.

Links to other sites

We link to official sources, radio and TV players, and other websites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.

Trademarks and third parties

Station names, channel names, logos and brands mentioned on this site belong to their respective owners. Life in Malaysia is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any of them. We link to official players and apps only, and we do not host or rebroadcast any stream.

Our content

Words and images we create are ours. You are welcome to quote a short extract with clear credit and a link back. Please do not republish whole articles without asking first.

Guest contributions

If you send us an article, you confirm it is your own work, that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights, and that you give us permission to publish and edit it. We may decline or remove any submission.

Comments and conduct

Keep it civil. We remove comments that are abusive, defamatory, spam, or that stray into party politics, race, religion or royalty. Those topics are outside what this site is for.

Advertising and affiliate disclosure

We currently carry no advertising, sponsored posts or affiliate links. If that changes, sponsored content will be clearly labelled and affiliate relationships disclosed on the page where they appear.

Liability

This site is provided as is. To the extent permitted by Malaysian law, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of it or from relying on anything published here.

Changes and governing law

We may update this page from time to time. The effective date at the top tells you when it last changed. These terms are governed by the laws of Malaysia.
